Boys & Girls Club Receives $10,000 from Osprey and Fastop

Osprey Property Company and Fastop Food Stores presented Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland (BGCSM) with a combined $10,000 check for BGCSM’s new Lusby Teen Center. David Lewis, President, Osprey Property Company and John Gott Jr., President, Lusby Fastop, are among the first donors to give to BGCSM Lusby Teen Center.
“While developing Lusby Center with Mr. Gott, I was made aware of a need in the Lusby community for an after school program for teens. When I heard about BGCSM’s plan to open a Teen Center, I wanted to become involved. Based on BGCSM’s reputation and proven results of making a difference in the lives of youth, I decided to donate $5,000”, said David Lewis. Mr. Gott added, “Fastop Food Stores has been in the Lusby community for over 10 years and we always try to support the communities in which we are located.” We felt that donating $5,000 to BGCSM’s Lusby Teen center went a long way towards accomplishing that goal.”

Lusby Teen Center will be located in a triple wide trailer that will house a state of the art computer lab, courtesy of Boys & Girls Club of America, next to Chesapeake Water Company in Lusby. The Teen Center will service up to 65 middle and high school age youth during the hours of 3-9:00 p.m. Programs will be based on BGCSM’s five core areas, Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, the Arts and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

Pamela R. Wilkerson, Executive Director, BGCSM stated, “Mr. Lewis and Mr. Gott’s generosity and County Commissioners Jerry Clark and Delegate Tony O’Donnell’s support have helped to start that process. We are still in need of in-kind donations such as, carpet, paint, a refrigerator and volunteers to help paint, build a ramp and shelving, as well as continued financial support to open the Teen Center.”

County Commissioner Jerry Clark, has been a supporter of BGCSM Bayside Unit in North Beach since he was elected to the Board in 2002. “I am very excited to see quality programs like Boys & Girls Clubs run in North Beach will become available through the new Teen Center in the southern end of the county for middle and high schoolers. It is comforting to know there will be a safe and positive place for these youth to go after school and into the evening.” For more information or to donate items contact Jon Tucker, Director of Operations, by phone 410.326.2200 or via email jtucker@bgcsm.net.
